Used Excavator Inspection Checklist

A used excavator inspection should focus on visible wear, hydraulic performance, engine condition, structural condition and proof that the machine matches the seller description.

Engine and starting condition

Check cold start behavior, smoke color, idle stability, abnormal noise, oil leaks, coolant condition and engine response under load.

Hydraulic system

Inspect cylinders, hoses, pump sound, swing function, travel function and boom-arm-bucket movement. Slow or weak movement can indicate pump or valve issues.

Undercarriage and tracks

For crawler excavators, check track shoes, rollers, sprockets, idlers and chain tension. Undercarriage wear can be a major cost after purchase.

Structure and welding

Look for cracks, fresh paint hiding repairs, boom or arm welding, bucket pin wear and frame deformation. Structural repair quality matters for long-term use.

Documents and identity

Confirm model, serial number, year, export documents and supplier details. The information should be consistent across photos, invoice and shipping documents.
